Flathead, Glacier top CMR, G. Falls

GREAT FALLS - Flathead and Glacier started off the volleyball season Saturday by sweeping the Great Falls schools at the Charlie M. Russell Fieldhouse.

Flathead defeated Great Falls High 25-23, 25-19, 25-9, and took down CMR 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 27-25.

Hannah Sackett had 18 kills and Danika Johnson six blocks in the win over CMR.

"It was a nice way to start the season," Flathead coach Leon Wilcox said.

"I was impressed with the fact they played so well, considering its their first match, the first weekend. There are a lot of things I didn't expect them to be getting until later on, so that was nice to see."

Wilcox said the offense was one of the team strengths on the day. He said the passing was good, "it will get better as the season goes."

Glacier's Lexy Boschee had 13 kills and three aces and Paige Latimer totaled 21 assists as the Wolfpack defeated CMR 26-24, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23. McKell Bennett led the Wolfpack defensive effort with six blocks.

Against Great Falls High, Cami Mathison had 15 digs and Boschee 10 kills and four aces in a 25-19, 25-14, 21-25, 25-17 victory. Rachel Cutler added nine kills for Glacier.

"Two very nice wins today," Glacier coach Christy Harkins said. "I'm very, very proud of those girls."

Harkins was impressed with how the team played together.

And defensively …

"Just some great hustle plays," she said. "We saved some balls we thought were out or dead. It was impressive to me to see them compete."
