Maynard D. Dan Holmes, 53

Maynard D. Dan Holmes, 53, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home in Kalispell. Dan was born on July 16, 1956, in California to John and Marva Bolster Holmes. He moved to Kalispell, where he was raised and attended school. Dan attended Flathead Valley Community College where he took surveying and engineering. He also attended Swift Transportation Driver training. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he worked as a mechanic, serving in Germany and Vietnam. Dan married Terrie DiTolla on Sept. 30, 1978, in Kalispell. They were married for over 31 years. He worked cutting and thinning Christmas trees for the family business, Zigglers. He also worked for the Forest Service as an engineer, drove truck, was a taxi driver and drove a tow truck. Dan loved playing softball, camping, fishing, his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Schmid; and two sisters, Karen and Mary. He is survived by his wife, Terrie Holmes; his mother, Marva Schmid; children, Chris, Angela, Pamela and Ashley; siblings, Shawn Schmid, Sharon Hagel, Fred and Jack Holmes; and grandchildren, Te Jay, Monica, Makayla and Ethan. Our hero has fallen, but an Angel got his wings. Our family wishes to thank all that have supported us through these tough times. Memorials should be made to Terrie Holmes.
