Ski season starts today
Whitefish Mountain Resort officials confirmed that today is the official season opener, with limited skiing mostly on the back side of Big Mountain.
“It’s pretty exciting. We’re not skiing waist-deep Whitefish powder yet, but that day will soon be here and opening day has an excitement all its own, regardless of conditions,” resort spokesman Donnie Clapp said.
The resort is reporting 31 inches of settled snow at the summit, 18 inches at the bottom of its north-facing terrain and about 6 inches in the village area.
The resort’s groomed ski runs will be open under Chair 7 and the T-Bar 2 on the back side, and Russ’s Street will be open on the front side of the mountain from the Summit to the Village area.
Skiers who choose not to ski Russ’s Street to the bottom can opt for a ride down on Chair One.
There also will be discounted rates.
Lift tickets will be $39 for skiers and snowboarders ages 13 to 64 or $24 for those ages 7 to 12 and 65 to 69. Guests younger than 7 or older than 70 will ski for free.
Ticket prices will be subject to change daily after opening day.
