Flathead edges Sentinel in wrestling
MISSOULA — Flathead used a pin by freshman Billy Allen (112) and a decision by Josh
Erickson to down Missoula Sentinel 37-33 in a Western AA wrestling dual on Thursday.
Erickson (152) decisioned Dave DeGarmo 7-1 to give the Braves (2-0) a seven-point advantage heading into the final weight class (160).
“That put it out of reach,” Flathead coach Matt Owen said.
“We had it secured.”
Allen’s pin came at a critical time with FHS down 22-12. He led 13-0 before getting the fall.
“That was a big swing,” Owen said.
“They have a really good team,” Owen said of Sentinel.
“We got down early, but we were able to bounce back and get in the dual.”
Also posting pins for Flathead were Joaquin Calderon (125), Shawn Lau (140) and Conner Thomas (285). Lau and Thomas were making their season debuts.
Flathead continues with mat action this weekend, at the Mining City Duals in Butte.
