It's a flash; it's a bump; it's a mystery

Flathead County sheriff

A man driving along U.S. 93 saw a flash as something hit his car, but couldn’t find anything. He reported the incident to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. No other cars were around, and when deputies responded, they didn’t find anything suspicious. The case remains a mystery.

Unknown persons paintballed a vacant building on West Valley Drive.

A 15-year-old girl reported she had been assaulted by her father. Deputies took statements and are following up on the matter. The girl is staying with her grandmother and did not report injuries.

A man called authorities after his neighbor allegedly plowed snow into his driveway. Since learning of the report, the neighbor has allegedly been shouting at the man. Both parties have been counseled.

Two men tried to enter a woman’s Columbia Falls residence on Tamarack Lane. Her dog took off after them and they fled. No suspects have been found.

Montana Highway Patrol responded after a car hit a moose along U.S. 2 near the entrance to Glacier National Park. The driver was not injured. No word on damage caused to the car or the moose.

A horse apparently died of natural causes some time ago, but the body has been frozen to the ground and cannot be removed from the property on Whitefish Stage Road. Concerned neighbors have called to report the issue, but the horse cannot be moved until it thaws.

A 19-year-old allegedly tried to shoplift fishing tackle from a sporting goods store on U.S. 2. When an employee tried to detain the suspect, he fought to get free before he was finally subdued. He was arrested on charges of shoplifting and disorderly conduct.

A teen was transported to North Valley Hospital after cutting her finger. No word on the severity of her injuries.

A dog, supposed to be tied up when outside due to its history of biting people, was reportedly off-leash and chasing children in Martin City. Investigation is continuing.

Deputies received 150 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Kalispell police

A wooden box containing several types of foreign currency was reported stolen to Kalispell Police in October. The owner was recently notified that someone tried to exchange the currency. The matter is under investigation.

Around 11 p.m. Tuesday, a person reported receiving harassing texts from an old friend and his girlfriend. Parties were counseled and advised not to contact each other.

The driver of a white Dodge Dakota seen in the parking lot of a supermarket off U.S. 93 reportedly smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and was fidgety. He reportedly had a small child in the vehicle with him. The man’s keys were taken and a sober driver came to pick him up.  

Around midnight Tuesday, a woman reportedly saw her ex-boyfriend, dressed all in black, standing across the street from her residence on First Street West.

A vehicle reportedly drove through the yard and flower beds of a residence on Merganser Drive early Wednesday morning. The extent of the damage is unclear due to the snow.

Someone attempted to gain entry into a business on Third Avenue by using a crowbar. Police are investigating.

In a separate incident, someone used a crowbar to enter a business on First Avenue West. Investigation is ongoing.

A man reportedly threatened tellers in a bank on Second Street, then left on foot. He has been banned from both of the bank’s locations.

Officers received 78 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish Police arrested a male teen on assault charges after an incident at the high school Wednesday.

Whitefish police received 30 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Columbia Falls police

Columbia Falls Police arrested a 30-year-old male last night at a gas station along U.S. 2 for his second charge of driving under the influence.

Police received 26 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
