Prep Hoops: Polson rallies by Whitefish

WHITEFISH — Tim Rausch scored 15 of his team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to rally Polson to a 56-50 Northwestern A boys basketball victory over Whitefish on Thursday.

Whitefish (0-1 league and 1-3 overall) led 37-33 heading into the final eight minutes of play.

Polson (1-0 and 2-1) had two more players in double-figure scoring — Kyle Bagnell with 15 and Vince DiGiallonardo with 14.

Gage Vasquez paced Whitefish with 12 points and Connor Silliker added 11.

This was the final game before the holiday break for Whitefish.

Polson plays at AA Missoula Big Sky on Saturday.

Bigfork 73, Eureka 44

EUREKA — Bigfork stayed undefeated on the young season and opened 7B play with an easy victory over Eureka.

Bigfork (1-0 and 3-0) pulled away for keeps in the second quarter, outscoring Eureka (0-1 and 1-2) 25-11. That put the Vikings up 40-22 at the break.

Keenan Evans and Ben Sandry led Bigfork offensively with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Eureka’s Ryan Holder led all scorers with 19 points.

Bigfork hosts Missoula Loyola on Saturday, while Eureka travels to Thompson Falls.

Stillwater Christian 51, Flathead sophs 36

Josh LeGassey turned in another complete game with team highs of 25 points, seven rebounds and five steals as Stillwater Christian rolled to a nonconference victory.

Trent Burton had another solid effort for the Cougars (5-1) with 14 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Jeremy Curtis also had five steals for SCS.

This was the final game before the holiday break for SCS.

Conner Hagel led the Flathead sophs in scoring with 11 points.

BIGFORK — Bigfork’s press helped the Valkyries get off to a fast start en route to a 20-point victory over Eureka in the 7B opener for both teams.

Taylor Peck led a balanced Bigfork offense with 16 points. Mallery Knoll totaled 13 and Caitlin Charlebois 11.

Kailey Fierro led Bigfork (1-0 and 2-1) in rebounding with eight, while Knoll and Melissa VanDerveer were next with six apiece.

Peck led in assists with eight and Charlebois followed with seven.

Tayler Holder tallied 11 points for Eureka (0-1 and 1-2).

Bigfork plays at Missoula Loyola on Saturday, while Eureka plays at Thompson Falls.
