Dog freed from coyote trap is OK

A  dog caught in a coyote trap Tuesday evening is OK, according to Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies. The German Shepherd cross was returned to its owner after it was freed from the trap near Florence Acres Way, an area where trapping is legal.

After allegedly attempting to steal an Xbox game system from a box store on U.S. 2, a 19-year-old man was arrested by deputies.

A vehicle fire was extinguished prior to deputies’ arrival. The engine reportedly malfunctioned, then caught fire in the Helena Flats area around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Following a fight with his girlfriend around 2 a.m. Wednesday, a man, 24, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal contempt.

Four reportedly intoxicated women were fighting at a party on Hathaway Lane around 3 a.m. Wednesday. They were separated by deputies, who at the same party, in a separate incident, arrested a man, 28, on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing a peace officer.

An intoxicated man reportedly spotted hitchhiking along U.S. 2 was given a ride home by deputies.

The gate to a Marion subdivision was reportedly damaged by unknown persons sometime Tuesday night.

A tree fell over and was reportedly blocking U.S. 93 near Tronstad Road around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Skis were stolen Tuesday from Big Mountain, and a snowboard was stolen Wednesday afternoon in an unrelated incident.

A man who appeared disoriented and was reportedly standing in traffic near a box store on U.S. 2 was gone when deputies arrived.

Deputies received 143 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Kalispell police

A 10-year-old boy was reportedly walking along Whitefish Stage without a coat and shoes. Kalispell Police took him home around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

A goat’s head was the only item reported stolen from a storage shed on Eighth Avenue West. There are no suspects.

Responding to a report of four to five gunshots heard within a minute near East California Street, police circled the block. Unable to hear anything more, police reported it had probably been a firework of some sort.

Police arrested two men, ages 18 and 20, on charges of shoplifting from a grocery store on U.S. 93. Store employees reportedly detained the two after they attempted to steal sunglasses and energy drinks. A small amount of marijuana paraphernalia was reportedly found on the 18-year-old, who received an additional citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A baby was reportedly left sleeping in a vehicle parked outside a sporting goods store on Hutton Ranch Road, but police were unable to locate the vehicle. 

Officers received 64 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish Police cited two men, both 19, for being minors in possession of alcohol.

Police also arrested a 24-year old Whitefish man for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

Officers received 44 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Columbia Falls police

A teenager came to the Columbia Falls Police department Wednesday to report his ex-girlfriend allegedly slapped him during an argument Tuesday night. The matter is under investigation.

Officers received 24 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
