Girls Basketball: Bruins blow past Bravettes, 68-44

HELENA - Helena Capital broke open a tight ballgame by outscoring Flathead 26-8 in the second period for a 68-44 girls basketball victory on Saturday.
Capital, 6-0 in Western AA and 11-1 overall, trailed Flathead 16-14 after the opening quarter.
Capital led 40-24 at the half.
Kelsey Hildal tallied 16 points for Flathead, and Danika Johnson followed with 13.
Kelsi Brekke, the second leading scorer in AA, poured in 23 for Capital. Brekke is averaging 17.6 points per game.
Flathead plays at Glacier on Tuesday, 6 p.m.

HELENA - Kyndal Williams drained four 3-pointers on her way to 18 points and the Bengals escaped with a win against the Glacier Wolfpack in Western AA play.
Senior Emilee Hashley led the Wolfpack with a season-best 17 points
The Bengals, 5-6 overall and 3-2 in conference, held a narrow lead throughout most of the game, but Glacier, 4-8 and 0-4, hung around until the very end.
The Wolfpack return home to play Flathead on Tuesday, 6 p.m.

PABLO - St. Ignatius held on to hand league-leading Eureka its first District 7B setback.
Eureka, 5-1 league and 6-8 overall, attempted a 3-point field goal to tie the game and force overtime, but missed the shot. Eureka's Mariah Newell, however, got the rebound and scored from close range to trim the deficit to one point.
St. Ignatius, 4-1 and 9-5, then ran out the clock.
Steph Vogelman scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds for Eureka. Newell had 7 rebounds.
"We played OK," Eureka coach John Hammond said.
"The second quarter killed us. We stood around and watched. We didn't get after it."
Eureka was 6-for-16 free throw shooting to St. Ignatius' 11-for-16.

RONAN - Whitefish picked up its first Northwestern A victory on Friday.
The Bulldogs, 1-5 league and 4-8 overall, were led by Kate Klundt's 32 points.
Whitefish trailed 23-20 at the intermission, but rallied in the final half.
Jordan Strozzi had 21 points for Ronan, 0-4 and 0-11.
Whitefish hosts Eureka on Tuesday in nonconference play.
