| February 1, 2009 1:00 AM

Kathryn Korn "Kay" Walterskirchen, 81, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at her home in Kalispell. She was born Feb. 12, 1927, to Daniel J. and Flora (Hammett) Korn.

Kay grew up in Kalispell, where she excelled in school as captain of the twirling squad and editor of the school newspaper, as well as valedictorian of the Flathead County High School class of 1944. She continued her education at the University of Montana and was an active member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the Spurs. After graduation she taught preschool at the university. During her college years she met the love of her life, Bill Walterskirchen, and they were married Sept. 13, 1947.

The couple moved to Kalispell in 1951, where Bill joined the law firm of Walshli, Korn and Warden. Kay dedicated her life to her husband and four children, and a variety of social and civic organizations. She dearly treasured her time creating ceramics, playing bridge and serving with the PEO group. Kay and Bill provided entertainment by performing their variety act for charitable events during a span of 17 years. She always encouraged her children to pursue a diverse set of interests, from music and writing to sports and community service.

After 31 years together, Bill passed away in 1978. She remained faithful to him, and Kay never remarried.

During her later years, Kay worked as an interior decorator, spent countless hours serving the needs of the elderly through her time and talents, organized and taught tap dance and exercise classes, and was a devoted Montana Grizzly football fan. Her favorite place in the world was her cabin on Flathead Lake near Lakeside, a personal paradise where she found contentment and serenity.

She was affectionately known as "Munyer" to her five grandchildren. She was a very classy lady to the very end and will be missed by all.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Lindsay Addington and husband, Jeff, of Bonner, Brad Walterskirchen and wife, Vicki, of Kalispell, Chris Walterskirchen of Missoula, and Mark Walterskirchen and wife, April, of Vancouver, Wash.; her brothers, Dan Korn, and James Korn and wife, Norah, all of Kalispell; and her grandchildren, Tobin Addington, Aislinn Addington, Josey Walterskirchen, Lisa Twining and Kelli Walterskirchen. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Ralphie, Homer, Flanders, Pogo, Millie and Noobie.

Per her wishes, no services are planned.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the LAB Preschool, c/o School of Education, University of Montana, 32 Campus Drive, Missoula, MT 59812.
