Boy charged with bringing gun to school

A 14-year-old boy was arrested Thursday for bringing a 9mm pistol to Smith Valley School on Wednesday.

A fellow Smith Valley student spotted the boy with the gun and told a teacher, according to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies interviewed numerous teachers, students and parents Wednesday and Thursday before searching the homes of the boy's mother and grandfather with the owners' consent - finding the gun.

The boy has been charged with possessing a weapon in a school building. The Flathead County Attorney's Office is determining whether additional charges should be added.
