Freezing rain that coated Flathead Valley roads with ice prompted the closure of most local schools Friday.

Whitefish public schools and Flathead Valley Community College are the only schools in Flathead County that are open.

All other schools, including those in Kalispell, Columbia Falls, Bigfork and rural districts, called off classes Friday due to the weather and road conditions.

The National Weather Service said snow is expected to turn to rain later in the day on Friday.

Friday's high temperature is forecast to be 37 degrees, with a low Friday night of 24 degrees.
