The Marco Heights 2 subdivision north of Lakeside got a green light from the Flathead County commissioners on Tuesday.

The commissioners last week granted an extension to give the developer and property owner Dan Gullotta and APEC Inc. time to work out a road-access issue. APEC is a local architecture, planning, engineering and consulting firm.

Marco Heights 2 is planned on 1.96 acres. A new professional building is planned on the northern lot, while the existing Lakeside Physical Therapy building is located on the southern lot.

A variance approved by the commissioners will allow a connection between the two parking lots in the commercial development and designate Deer Creek Road as the U.S. 93 access point.

The commissioners also OK'd a planning-staff request to ask the state to abandon an existing U.S. 93 access in Marco Heights 2.

Sight distance for motorists is a concern for both the neighbors and the county. The commissioners will ask the state to conduct a traffic study in that area, about 2.5 miles north of Lakeside, and consider a no-passing zone.
