A woman and her three children fled Tuesday evening when her intoxicated husband reportedly began shooting guns in their Lost Prairie Road house, according to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office. The man then barricaded himself in the residence, prompting a call to the county SWAT team. The initial call to the sheriff came in at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman had one child with her, but her 8-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son hid. They were located, with help from law enforcement, but not before they were thoroughly chilled. Paramedics with Marion ambulance treated them on scene.

The children and their mother are staying at a Kalispell shelter, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and Kalispell police officers, who assisted the county, were on scene at Lost Prairie until about 3 a.m. Wednesday. The man had not been charged with anything as of early Wednesday evening.

Deputies' first concern at the standoff was ensuring the woman and her children were safe, Sheriff Mike Meehan said. On Wednesday, deputies further investigated the domestic disturbance that led to the standoff and spoke with the Flathead County attorney.
