Idol, Klundt top scorers in Northwestern A

Following the holiday break, Northwestern A basketball for boys and girls will resume with a full slate of action the next three nights.

Libby and Polson are both 1-0 in boys and girls NW A action thus far, while Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Ronan have yet to play a league contest, boys and girls.

The Whitefish boys and girls are off to an 0-2 start in NW A.

Colt Idol's final basketball season at Whitefish High School, however, is off to a blazing start.

The 6-foot-3 senior leads the league in scoring with 131 points, which breaks down to a 21.83 points per game average. Idol, who has verbally committed to play basketball next season for Montana State, has a season-high of 26 points in back-to-back games with Dillon and Corvallis to open the season.

Idol has connected on 43 of 103 field goal attempts (41.75 percent), which is a league best.

Libby's Conner Benson is the league's No. 2 scorer with 88 points, for a 17.6 ppg average.

Nolan Harris of Ronan is third at 14.2, with Brock Boll of Bigfork fourth, 14.0, and Mike Fisher of Ronan fifth, 13.0.

Benson leads NW A in 3s made with 12. He's attempted 29. Harris and Idol are next, both with 11 apiece in 33 attempts.

Whitefish's Josh Backer has a league best average in rebounding with 7 per game. Next is Grant Getts of Columbia Falls at 6.8.

For Northwestern A girls, Whitefish's Kate Klundt is the league's top scorer with 96 points, averaging 19.2 per game. She also leads NW A in rebounding, averaging 10.4 per game.

Jackie Mee of Libby is second in scoring, 19 points per game, with Carli Starkel of Ronan third, 15, Roxy Thurman of Bigfork fourth, 14.33, and Kaylee Larson of Ronan fifth, 14.

Kay DeWitt of Columbia Falls is averaging 10 rebounds per game, second best in the league.
