Vonzel Kaye Role passed away peacefully at her home in Spokane on Dec. 21, 2008, with the love of her life, Jack, by her side, after losing a courageous battle with cancer. Although she had dealt with many health issues, not once did we ever hear her complain.

Vonzel was born June 27, 1947, the second child of Loren "Bud" and Peggy Frerich in Whitefish. She grew up in the logging community of Half Moon in the Flathead Valley. She attended grades 1 through 8 at the country school Canyon View in Half Moon. She attended high school in Columbia Falls, graduating in 1965.

She attended beauty school in Spokane and returned to the Flathead and worked in Columbia Falls as a beautician.

Vonzel married her childhood sweetheart, Jack Role, and they moved to Spokane, where they raised their three children and have resided since. After raising her three children, Vonzel returned to college and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.

Vonzel was preceded in death by her parents, Loren "Bud" and Peggy Frerich; her daughter, KaLee; and her sister, LaDonna Dehlbom.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; son, Jeff, and Tanya Role, of Rainier, Wash.; son, Rick, and Tammy Role, of Liberty Lake, Wash.; grandchildren, KaLee, Kinsey, Caleb, Zach and Abby; sister, Vernell, and husband, Cliff Schellinger, of Eltopia, Wash.; brother, Wayne, of Black Eagle; many nieces and nephews, along with many other loved ones and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Jan. 10, at the Spokane Christian Center (corner of Argonne and Bigelow Gulch Road).
