Glacier, Flathead JV both 3-0 at Ronan duals

RONAN - Clayton Hamilton's reversal and pin reversed the fortunes Friday of the Glacier Wolfpack wrestling team at the Western A Duals in Ronan.

The Wolfpack trailed the Blue Devils at that point, and Hamilton was behind in his 171-pound match against Corvallis' E. Schwehr.

"The kid got a little bit high on him. Clayton just caught him and stacked him up on his shoulders and pinned him," said Glacier coach Mark Fischer.

That pin, at 3:50, got the ball rolling for Glacier. The Wolfpack stormed back to beat Corvallis 51-31.

"We are very solid from 125 on up. When you get on a roll like that, it just keeps going," Fischer said.

The Wolfpack wound up winning all three of its duals. It defeated Florence 55-27 and Thompson Falls 72-16.

"Tanner Woodland had a great day for us. He really showed a lot of heart," Fischer said.

Woodland (160), Riley Pisk (140), Larry Francis (152), and Jordan Nelson (135) all went 3-0 on the day.

Fischer also complimented the efforts of John Frandsen (215) and Joel Horn (285).

Fisher wasn't the only local coach in a good mood on the bus ride back to the Flathead Valley.

Flathead JV also won all three of its duals - downing Corvallis 38-28, Columbia Falls 51-29 and St. Ignatius 69-13.

"The kids are wrestling like animals. They are really stepping up. It's amazing to watch them wrestle," said Flathead JV coach Rich Evans.

"There's so many of these kids that did really well. These kids are in shape and they're really doing well. They're wrestling as a team. If somebody gets down they're pumping each other back up. They wrestled as a team really, really well," Evans said.

Glacier JV also came away with a win at the tournament. It defeated Deer Lodge 48-21, but lost 45-42 to Frenchtown.

Glacier JV coach Mark Armstrong complimented the efforts of Shane St. Onge and Brayden Bagley.

The tournament continues today. Weigh-ins are at 9 a.m. The Wolfpack then takes on Columbia Falls. Glacier JV will wrestle Hamilton and Flathead JV takes on Florence, all at 11.

"They've got some scrappy kids, they're well-coached. It's going to be a barn-burner," Fischer said of Columbia Falls.
