Polson pulls away from Lions

POLSON - Polson exploded for 22 points in the second quarter en route to a 62-41 nonconference girls basketball victory over Eureka on Friday.

Polson, up 11-6 after the first period, led 33-17 at the half.

Polson outscored Eureka 22-11 in the second period.

"We missed a lot of good looks at the basket," Eureka coach John Hammond said.

"(Down 14 at the half) was too much to come back from."

Eureka, 3-5 overall, was led offensively by Auna Lawler, 11 points. Mariah Newell had six steals and five points.

Polson, 4-4, had three players in double figure scoring - Nicole Davey, 11, Sarah Newton, 10, and Breanne Kelley, 10.

Kelley led Polson's offensive burst in the second quarter, scoring six points.

"We had seven different girls score (in that quarter)," Polson coach Randy Kelley said. "The hole got big for us. We shot great."

Davey and Amanda James both pulled down six rebounds.

Polson plays at Libby tonight, while Eureka entertains Troy. Both games begin at 6 p.m.

MISSOULA - Joslyn Tinkle scored 28 points as Big Sky improved to 9-0 over winless Flathead.

It was the ninth straight loss for Flathead.

Kelsey Hildal paced Flathead with 19 points. Danika Johnson had 16 rebounds for the Bravettes.

Flathead is back in action Thursday at Bigfork.

RONAN - Kayla DeWit tossed in 23 points and Kelsey DeWit had 11 as Columbia Falls picked up an easy Northwestern A victory.

Columbia Falls, 4-3 overall and 3-0 in league, led 31-11 at the half.

Ronan, 0-7 and 0-3, was led by Morgan Belgrade's 10 points.

Columbia Falls plays at Whitefish tonight at 6.

POLSON - A big second half allowed Polson to pull away for a 77-34 victory over Eureka on Friday in a boys nonconference basketball contest.

Polson, up 34-24 at the break, outscored Eureka 43-10 in the third and fourth quarters.

Kyle Bagnell and Tim Rausch paced the victors with 13 points each. Rausch also led Polson in assists, four, and steals, four.

Polson, 6-2, outrebounded Eureka 33-21. Joe Andrews pulled down seven for Polson.

Polson enjoyed a big edge at the free throw line, going 16-for-19. Eureka had just one attempted and missed.

Polson, winners of three straight, plays at Libby today, while Eureka hosts Troy. Both games begin at 4:30 p.m.

GREAT FALLS - Austin Heavyrunner tallied 16 points and three other Bison teammates hit double-figure scoring in the 18-point nonconference AA victory over Flathead.

This game was rescheduled from Dec 13.

Dustin Schultz followed with 15 points, Nate Gilmor added 11 and Mike Winkler finished with 10.

Great Falls, 3-4, led 31-22 at the break.

Flathead's Karl Ingram led all scorers with 18 points. George Sherwood totaled 12.

Flathead, 1-7, hosts Missoula Big Sky today at 4:30 p.m. in Western AA play.

RONAN - Columbia Falls jumped on top early, and rolled to an easy Northwestern A victory.

The Wildcats, 5-3 overall and 2-1 in league, led 21-12 and 36-17 after the first two quarter breaks.

Ronan, 4-4 and 1-2, was held to single-digit scoring in the second and fourth quarters.

Mitchell Wassam had 14 points to pace Columbia Falls.

Nolan Harris collected 13 for Ronan.

Columbia Falls plays at Whitefish tonight at 8.

Stillwater Christian School came close, but 27 turnovers was the Cougars undoing in a three-point Montana Christian Athletic Association Western Conference setback to Flathead Valley Home School at West Valley School.

Stillwater, 5-5, had several key turnovers down the stretch.

FVHS led 27-26 heading into the fourth quarter.

Josh LeGassey had 17 rebounds and 16 points for Stillwater.

Josh Jarvis led Flathead Valley Home School with 17 points. The Crusaders are 7-5 overall, 3-0 league.

On Thursday, FVHS lost 66-65 to Missoula Hellgate's sub varsity. Stephen Sprunger led the Crusaders with 17 points.
