David James Himsl, 52

David James Himsl, 52, of Kalispell, passed away Dec. 20, 2008, at the home of his parents, Erna and Bernard Himsl, of Edmond, Okla., where he was undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma.

He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Susan; his daughters, Lily and Lucy, and his son, Max. In addition, he is survived by his younger brothers, Mark and his wife, Sandy, of Colbert, Ga., Chris and his wife, Marilyn, of Carlisle, Pa., Mike and his wife, Carolyn, of Anchorage, Alaska; and his sister, Vikki Smith, and her husband, Keith, of Williamsburg, Va. David is also survived by seven nieces and nephews; and by numerous Reichenbach aunts, uncles and cousins of Billings, and equally numerous Himsl relatives of Washington state and Kalispell.

David was born in Billings on Feb. 22, 1956, and raised in many different American states, Germany and Spain as the son of a career Air Force noncommissioned officer. After graduating high school from Liverpool High School, Liverpool, N.Y., David returned to Billings where he graduated from Eastern Montana College.

Shortly after graduation, he and bride Susan moved to Kalispell. Over the course of 30 years he sold tires, managed a laundry, owned a newspaper delivery service, and worked as a finish carpenter.

David's passion for his family, rugby and youth soccer made him a valued member of the Flathead community. David served on the Flathead Youth Soccer board, officiated many soccer games, and acted as a referee recruiter supporting the 800 young athletes playing soccer in the Flathead Valley. David's irrepressible personality and enthusiasm for life warmed all those that met him.

There are no services planned at this time for David. There will be a memorial service celebrating his life in the spring of 2009 when the rugby pitches and soccer fields turn green.
