Schmid-Sommer eighth in World Classic race

Whitefish's Kelsey Schmid-Sommer finished eighth in the Classic race on the second day of the Telemark World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria, on Thursday.
Schmid-Sommer was one of two women from the United States to break into the top 10. Lorin Paley of Steamboat Springs, Colo., finished fifth in the women's race and won the gold medal in the junior women's.
On the men's side, Peter McMahon of Whitefish placed 41st. Drew Hauser of Silverthorne, Colo., won the bronze.
The overall championship is still up for grabs and will be determined in Saturday's Sprint Classic.
