Learn your way around county government

This week, Flathead Valley Community College presents "Connect the Dots," a seminar to help people navigate Flathead County government.

Free and open to the public, sessions on Wednesday and Thursday address such questions as where to obtain license plates, who to talk to regarding water rights and what the Sheriff's Office handles.

People who want to attend need to register by calling the Continuing Education Center at 756-3832 or e-mailing to ceinfo@fvcc.edu.

Subjects for Wednesday (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) session include:

n Title company overview.

n Environmental health and sanitation.

n Plat room.

n Planning and zoning.

n Geographic Information Systems.

n Treasurer's office/assessor/appraiser, clerk and recorder's office.

n Board clerk and district court clerk.

n County attorney and superintendent of schools.

Subjects for Thursday (8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.) include:

n Roads and public works and refuse.

n Sheriff's Office.

n Weeds/parks.

n Emergency services.

n Water rights.

n State lands and fire.

Cal Scott, 2008 Northwest Montana Association of Realtors president and Realtor of the Year, serves as moderator for the seminar sponsored by the Flathead County Clerk and Recorder's Office.

People who may benefit from these sessions include contractors, engineers, surveyors, mortgage lenders, real estate professionals, attorneys, housing organizations and property owners.
