Travis Andrus, a second team all-state wide receiver for Flathead High School, has made a verbal commitment to play football at the University of Montana.

Andrus decided on the Griz after a recruiting trip to Missoula last weekend.

"They made an offer, I accepted," Andrus said.

Andrus will receive a partial scholarship his first season. His scholarship value could increase, depending on playing time.

"They told me you earn what you get.

"It was a dream come true for me," Andrus said.

"I've always wanted to come and play for the Griz."

Andrus also looked at Montana State, Minot State and MSU-Northern.

National signing day is Feb. 4. Andrus says he will fax his national letter-of-intent on that day.

Travis' father, Bart Andrus, played quarterback for UM from 1978-81. Travis' sister, Brooke Andrus, is a junior distance runner for the Griz.

Andrus, 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, was Flathead's leading receiver his senior year with 51 receptions for 767 yards and 10 touchdowns in 10 regular-season games. He averaged 15 yards per catch.

Andrus was third in Class AA in total receptions, one behind the co-leaders, second in receiving yardage, and he tied for most touchdown receptions.

In Flathead's 56-13 playoff loss to Billings West, Andrus had six receptions for 45 yards and one touchdown (five yards).

Andrus' best game was at Missoula Hellgate, a 58-20 victory that clinched a playoff spot for the Braves. Andrus had seven receptions for 152 yards and three touchdowns (25, 12 and 10 yards' in that contest.

"I was really happy with it," Andrus said of his final season.

"It was a lot of fun.

"It was great to have Brock (Osweiler) as my quarterback, throwing me the ball. That really helps."
