Getting Around in the Flathead

| June 2, 2009 6:00 PM

When it comes to transportation there are many options for getting to and around the Flathead Valley. If you prefer a good scenic road trip in the car marked with historical sites, mountains, rivers, lakes and wildlife as a way to the valley Highways 2 and 93 are easily accessible from any direction. Because there is so much exploring to do all over the valley renting a car from one of our nation-wide rental companies can be both enjoyable and economical. Amtrak's east and west bound Empire Builder train runs from Seattle to Chicago daily and arrives conveniently in our historic town of Whitefish. If you would rather travel by air Glacier Park International Airport is serviced by Delta, Sky West, Horizon Air, Northwest and United Airlines. Greyhound, Powder River Trailways and Rimrock Trailways are several bus lines that have regular routes to the area.

Traveling from point a to point b in the Flathead Valley has a variety of options. Whether you choose a stretch-hummer-limo, a chartered helicopter, a bicycle or even horseback the possibilities are endless. Glacier Park's shuttle system is a great alternative that is environmentally conscious. The shuttle system, which travels form one end of the park to the other, is especially handy for all you hikers. Shuttles are offered in two styles, a modern shuttle-van or the park's historic red bus. A vintage motor coach, the historic red bus will transport you in time as it winds up Going-to-the-Sun-Road with the canvas top rolled back so you don't miss one second of breathtaking views!
