Intricate maze a challenge at Fun Center

| June 2, 2009 6:00 PM

Passageways more than a mile long on two levels create a three-dimensional puzzle that challenges visitors of all ages at the Amazing Fun Center on U.S. 2 near Coram.

The objective is to weave your way to each corner of the maze and collect stamps proving you made it, then backtrack to the exit, all in the fastest time possible.

Visitors to the maze shouldnÕt feel that theyÕve mastered it in just one trip. The design is changed weekly to make each visit a challenge. The average time to negotiate the maze is about an hour, and when you finish, you will have walked about 3 miles. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Clues are available for those who need them, and the maze is patrolled in case anyone needs help. Because of the complexity of the maze, youngsters under 10 should be accompanied by someone older.

THERE ARE picnic areas and gazebos on the grounds where visitors can buy cool drinks and snacks. Charcoal barbecue grills are available.

There is also a climbing-wall simulator.

An 18-hole miniature golf course features waterfalls, fountains and obstacles.Another attraction is Bankshot Basketball. A pond with bumper boats adds to the fun. Drivers of the boats can circle around an island and may get drenched as other boaters aim their squirt guns. A fountain under which boaters can ride cools them off. Boaters may want to bring extra clothes.

Another feature is a go-cart track. The quarter-mile concrete track is lined with tires for safety, and the cars are electronically remote-controlled. Call for ticket prices. The complex is open daily from 9:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Call 387-5902.
