Plum Creek shuts down Evergreen plants; 63 lose their jobs

Plum Creek Timber Co. announced late Thursday afternoon that it is closing its Evergreen stud sawmill and stud remanufacturing plant indefinitely on June 26.

As a result, 63 employees will lose their jobs.

Plum Creek blamed a lack of demand for products made at the company's two Evergreen facilities for the decision to close.

The Columbia Falls sawmill is not affected by this announcement, but 23 Columbia Falls workers will lose their jobs on June 26 as a cost-cutting measure.
