Kalispell police shot and killed a pit bull charging officers Friday afternoon in the parking lot of the Outlaw Inn on U.S. 93 South.

According to investigators, officers responded to reports of a pit bull attack in the hotel's parking lot about 1:15 p.m. and found a badly bitten man who was bleeding heavily.

The man was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was listed late Friday in stable condition. Among other injuries, the man was bitten at least once in the face.

Two of the responding officers - who shielded the victim, paramedics and bystanders with shotguns drawn - each shot the charging dog once, killing it.

The pit bull reportedly was staying with one of the hotel's guests. The dog did not belong to the victim.

Further details about the attack, which is still under investigation, were not available Friday.
