Flathead County sheriff
Three people who went out drinking Wednesday night ended up at a Martin City residence. During an ensuing altercation - investigators are unsure about what caused it - one man was asked to leave. As he was going, a shot was fired. Thinking he was hit in the hand, the 55-year-old man called Flathead County sheriff's deputies from a Hungry Horse convenience store. Turns out he hadn't been shot, but may have put his hand through a window. He was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. The person who allegedly fired the gun apparently only had one bullet. No arrests have been made.
Someone broke into a Hungry Horse residence through a window and made off with some appliances. Deputies suspect the alleged theft is connected with a civil dispute over ownership of the property.
A man showed up at a Shady Lane residence to pick up a trailer he reportedly purchased. The man in possession of said trailer, however, was holding onto it in lieu of a debt and refused to give it up. Neither man was arrested after the resulting scuffle, which reportedly involved some pushing.
During the past several weeks, a car parked outside a Bigfork high school was keyed twice.
A Harmony Road woman called deputies with a problem: Her 5-year-old was hitting her. She was counseled.
A gray pickup reportedly speeding along U.S. 2 west of Kalispell was reported as suspicious. Turns out the driver was a private investigator working on a case.
Deputies responded to U.S. 2 in Evergreen after a passer-by called in to report seeing a truck trying to climb a snow bank. No crime had occurred.
Deputies separated a married couple arguing on Cliff Creek Road. In other cases of domestic discord, deputies separated a man and woman on Klondyke Loop after some disagreement about the man's presence in the home, and took a complaint from a Foothill Road resident, whose ex won't stop calling.
A landlord found three teens in what was supposed to be an empty home on Three Mile Drive. They ran. Deputies are investigating whether one may have been an evicted tenant retrieving property.
A couple of youths who walked into a store on U.S. 2 in Evergreen were followed by security. Suspecting shoplifting, security confronted the teens in the parking lot. Security grabbed one, but the other bowled into the guard and both escaped. One of the suspects, a 17-year-old, was caught near Woodland Park and released to a parent.
Neither man involved in a fight at a motel on Montana 35 in Evergreen wanted to press charges. A neighbor called deputies after hearing the pair banging into the walls.
A Whalebone Drive woman received a death threat via text message.
A pregnant woman caught shoplifting at a store on U.S. 2 in Evergreen went into labor immediately after being busted. The woman, who was taken to the hospital, was ticketed.
A Lakeside girl called her mother after her mother's ex-husband tried to get into the house. The mother called deputies. Deputies responded and discovered the man was out there with a real-estate agent. The complaint was canceled.
Deputies received 139 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Kalispell police
A woman called Kalispell police after her twin boys failed to return home from school on the bus. They were found walking the wrong way home.
Employees of a First Avenue West business reported a verbally abusive client.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing condoms and candy from a grocery store on U.S. 93 South. A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of stealing a bottle of wine from a grocery store on Third Avenue East North.
Medication was reported stolen on First Avenue West and, in a separate incident, mail was reported stolen on Northridge Drive
Children playing on heavy equipment on U.S. 93 North were told to stay off the property. No damage was done.
Officers responded to Liberty Street after the driver of a sports car was reported for driving recklessly.
A woman told officers her boyfriend took her car and won't return it. Officers spoke with both parties, and he agreed to return the vehicle.
Officers received 69 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Columbia Falls police
Columbia Falls police received 17 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Alarms
In separate incidents, the Kalispell Fire Department and Smith Valley Fire Department responded to falls on Dern Road and Fox Hill Drive. The first call involved an 85-year-old man who fell in his driveway, hurting his hip. The second call involved a man, who had been drinking, who fell down the stairs. Both patients were taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
The Kalispell Fire Department and Evergreen Fire Department were paged to Trumble Creek Road, where a 9-month-old child was choking on food. The food was dislodged, and the child was not taken to the hospital.
The Bigfork Fire Department responded to reports of a brush fire near the post office. Turns out it was a controlled burn.
