Three Flathead High School seniors have been selected as Academic All Americans by the National Forensics League.
Olivia Heinle, Katie Hoag and Cailin Rogers have been top competitors for the Flathead speech and debate team for at least three seasons. They are all members of the International Baccalaureate program.
To be named an Academic All American, each student had to maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.7, earn a Degree of Superior Distinction from the NFL and score above a 27 on the ACT or a 2,000 on the SAT.
"To be named an All American is a great honor," Flathead head coach Kala Lougheed said. "Olivia, Cailin and Katie join an elite group of scholar/speakers. They have been core members of our team and we are very proud of their latest accomplishment."
Heinle has competed in Expository Speaking, Memorized Public Address, Original Oratory and Student Congress. She placed fifth in Original Oratory at the state meet in January. Heinle plans to study journalism at a California college.
Hoag took second in Impromptu Speaking and third in Extemporaneous Speaking at the state tournament in January. She will compete in her third national tournament this summer; last year, she finished in the top 30 in Extemporaneous Commentary. Hoag plans to study science at Yale University.
Rogers is this year's Legislative Debate state champion. She also has competed in Policy and Lincoln Douglas debate. Rogers plans to study political science at Macalester College in Minnesota.
