People interested in saving electricity, and money, have another research option.

Flathead Electric Cooperative's board of directors and management introduced several programs to help its members and the co-op as a whole save electricity.

Called Energy Fix, the cluster of programs, outlined in a press release, is an integral part of meeting future energy needs. Programs are based on the idea that energy saved is energy that members and the co-op don't have to buy.

n The Home Audit Program is free to Co-op members who own their home and heat with electricity. Specially trained professionals will meet you at your home, discuss your energy-use habits and analyze your temperature settings and insulation levels. Depending on your home's energy use, you'll receive compact fluorescent light bulbs and possibly other energy-saving devices.

Technicians will make recommendations on site. The co-op will follow with an in-depth report containing specific advice on ways to improve the performance of your home.

n The Prime Window Replacement Program is for those who heat primarily with electricity. It helps cover some of the costs of adding new super efficient windows to existing homes.

n The Insulation Rebate Program helps co-op members upgrade insulation levels in existing electrically heated homes. It usually is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve a home's energy efficiency.
