Glacier has 3 AA basketball all-staters, Flathead 1

Three basketball players from Glacier High and one from Flathead were named Class AA first-team all state this week.
Glacier senior Ben Cutler, who led AA boys in scoring with 23 points per game, earned the honor for the second straight year along with teammate Shay Smithwick-Hann, a junior who averaged 13.1 ppg and 9.9 rebounds per game this season. Smithwick-Hann was second team all-state last season when the Wolfpack finished 3-18. This season, Cutler and Smithwick-Hann led the Wolfpack to its first state tournament and a 15-8 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 record at home.
Cutler scored 34 points in a win against Class A Whitefish on Dec. 16 and 33 in a Feb. 3 win against his former school, Flathead. The 5-foot-11 guard finished the season scoring 26 points or more in eight games.
On the girls side, Flathead senior Kelsey Hildal, who was fourth in AA scoring with 18.8 ppg, joined Glacier senior Emilee Hashley, who averaged 13.8 ppg and 8.9 rpg and earned repeat honors.
Hildal, in her one and only season at Flathead, set the school scoring record for a game with 39 points in a loss to Missoula Big Sky on February 12. The previous record was set in 1995 by Darcy James, who scored 36 points in a game. Hildal, a 5-4 guard, also scored 37 points in an overtime loss to Helena High on Feb. 21.
Hashley led the Wolfpack to a place-fourth finish in the West and a 9-12 overall record. The 6-foot post had a career-high 30 points against Helena High on Feb. 20.
On the all-conference squads, Glacier senior Lindsea Vaudt was named honorable mention on the girls side after averaging 5.2 ppg.
On the boys side, Flathead junior Karl Ingram, who averaged 14.2 ppg and 7.5 rpg, made the second team. Flathead freshman George Sherwood averaged 9 ppg and 5.3 rpg and was honorable mention.
