Mother, son die in U.S. 93 crash

A pregnant 35-year-old Columbia Falls woman and her 13-year-old son were killed Thursday evening in a head-on collision near the intersection of U.S. 93 North and Church Drive.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 16-year-old girl, was critically injured. She was first taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and later was flown to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle.

The two passenger vehicles collided head-on while on the overpass on U.S. 93, according to a press release from the Flathead County Sheriff's Department.

The woman and her son were pronounced dead at the scene.

The West Valley Fire Department extricated the victims from both vehicles.

The Montana Highway Patrol and sheriff's office are investigating the crash. Names have been withheld pending notification of family members.
