The board of directors of The Nurturing Center has hired Ned Cooney to provide consultation and transition coordination services for the center.

He was hired in the wake of the death of Susan Christofferson last month. She was one of the founders of the Nurturing Center who served as its only executive director over the last 30 years.

As transition coordinator, Cooney will help the board hire a new executive director, according to a news release from the Nurturing Center.

Until a new director is hired, he also will ensure that the Nurturing Center continues to provide services: a wide range of programs and resources for parents, families and child-care providers.

Diane Clark will continue as the Nurturing Center's administrative assistant.

"Ned Cooney is in a unique position to help us through this time of transition," said Barbara Calm, president of the Nurturing Center board.

"He is deeply committed to the Flathead Valley, is skilled and experienced in the functioning of community nonprofit organizations, and has worked closely with Susan in grant writing, as well as facilitating work sessions. We know we can trust his guidance, staying true to the mission of the Nurturing Center."
