Kalispell man arrested in sex assault case involving girl

A Kalispell man wanted in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl was arrested Thursday afternoon.
Scott Allen Elkins, 44, is charged with two counts of felony sexual assault and one count of sexual intercourse without consent, also a felony.
According to court documents, the sexual assaults occurred between January 2007 and May 2008. Elkins inappropriately touched the girl and once attempted to rape her while her mother took weekly classes at a hobby store, prosecutors allege.
If convicted on all counts, Elkins could face up to 300 years in prison and a $150,000 fine. He has yet to be arraigned.
