In some districts, board trustees elected by acclamation
The Daily Inter Lake
Most local school districts canceled trustee elections this year.
Trustee candidates had until April 9 to file. If, by that date, only one person had declared his or her intent to run for a seat on the school board, that person was elected by acclamation.
That happened in 15 Flathead County school districts this spring. Some, such as Bigfork and Kalispell, have both high school and elementary students and therefore have high-school and elementary trustees. Elementary trustees may vote on any issue in the district; high-school trustees vote on issues specific to the high-school district.
Two districts, Cayuse Prairie and Kalispell, each have one vacant seat with no candidates. The school boards will appoint someone to serve in those positions for the next year, and the remainder of the terms will be up for grabs again in the 2010 election.
