A man convicted of punching an ex-girlfriend unconscious and then fleeing the scene has been sentenced to a three-year probationary sentence.

During a hearing Thursday in Flathead County District Court, Shannon Wade Fight, 37, was ordered to serve a three-year suspended sentence to the Montana Department of Corrections.

Fight entered an ex-girlfriend's Montana 40 residence without permission on Sept. 4 and began an argument with another man inside, according to court documents.

Prosecutors allege that the two men took the argument outside, but Fight allegedly returned and began beating the 35-year-old woman. She was able to flee from the residence, but Fight allegedly dragged her back inside by the hair and punched her in the head 12 to 20 times.

Fight then threw the woman in a bathtub, dumped cold water on her and sexually assaulted her before beating her unconscious, according to court documents.

In exchange for his guilty plea to criminal endangerment, a felony, prosecutors dropped aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, and sexual intercourse without consent charges.

After the woman awoke and reported the attack, Flathead County Sheriff's deputies tracked Fight to the White Birch Motel on Shady Lane in Evergreen, where he was arrested several hours after the incident.

Deputies previously had arrested Fight in 2007 on a Tulsa County, Okla., warrant.
