Whitefish musicians earn honors

Whitefish High School students performed recently at the 2009 Western State Solo and Ensemble Festival in Missoula. Local results include:

n Superior vocal - Heather Bailey, solo; Anne Miller, solo; Liz Stevenson, solo; Jimmy Millard, solo; Tara Sullivan, Anne Miller, Carmen Luke and Beth Donovan, quartet; Triana Bouillon and Natali Kragh, duet; women's ensemble from the concert choir.

n Superior instrumental - Tyler Schiff, trumpet solo; Lucas Peace, marimba solo; Makena Johnson, violin solo; Breanna Barnes, violin solo; Austin Berscheid, cello solo; "Incantation and Festal Dance" percussion ensemble; "Letter from Home" percussion ensemble.

n Excellent vocal - Tara Sullivan, vocal solo; Heather Bailey and Olivia Curtis, vocal duet; Jacob Courtney and Tara Sullivan, vocal duet; Ariel Ducote and Josh Weaver, vocal duet; women's ensemble from the chorale; voce macho; voce primo.

n Excellent instrumental - Carmen Luke, snare drum solo; Will Holdhusen, xylophone solo and piano solo; Sam Wiley, Austin Berscheid and Makena Johnson, string trio; Shannon Hawkinson and Austin Berscheid, string duet; Makena Johnson and Austin Berscheid, string duet; Courtney VonLindern and Natalie Kearns, saxophone duet; David FauntLeRoy and Jimmy Millard, tuba duet; "Bayport Sketch" percussion ensemble; Shannon and the boys string quintet.

Accompanists were Dan Kohnstamm and Alma Ramlow. The high school music department includes Jenanne Solberg, orchestra; Terry DeGroot, choirs; and Mark McCrady, bands.
