A 46-year-old man accused of assaulting a Montana Highway Patrol trooper during an April traffic stop pleaded not guilty Thursday to two felonies and six misdemeanors during his arraignment in Flathead County District Court. The man - who faces charges ranging from assaulting a peace officer and drug possession to DUI and traffic violations - injured the trooper during a lengthy struggle. At one point, the man, who initially fled the scene on foot, used one hand to crawl under a trailer with two men trying to hold him down. Both the trooper and the defendant were treated at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Flathead County sheriff

A Castle View Road man, who has had problems with people in the past, told Flathead County Sheriff's deputies someone shot at him from afar and he felt the bullet graze his chin. Deputies believe the report was unfounded.

A South Cedar Drive resident wanted deputies to help remove a squatter staying sporadically in a fifth-wheel trailer.

Items were stolen from a vehicle on Montana 35, and a gun was reported missing in Hungry Horse.

The driver had already left when authorities discovered a vehicle involved in a rollover crash on the North Fork Road.

Four fishing poles were stolen from a residence on Montana 35 in Bigfork. The homeowner may have a suspect.

An Evergreen man divorcing his wife wanted her charged because she changed addresses and now his mail goes to her.

A woman allegedly slapped a Badrock Drive man and threw a shoe at him. Neither party decided to press charges.

Burglaries were reported on Fourth Avenue West North outside Columbia Falls, where a laptop was stolen, and on U.S. 93 south of Whitefish. Deputies are investigating.

Deputies received 115 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kalispell police

Kalispell police arrested an 18-year-old man for vehicle theft during a traffic stop on Second Avenue West. The car was being reported stolen at the same time officers initiated the stop.

Ten credit cards of various varieties were reported stolen from a hotel on Treeline Road.

Officers arrested a man on suspicion of disorderly conduct after he allegedly urinated and defecated in the hallway of a hotel on U.S. 93 South.

Officers were unable to locate the culprit who reportedly fired two shots in the area of Fourth Avenue East.

A man attempted to cash a forged $100 check at a bank downtown.

A Canvasback Court resident allegedly slammed his wife against a wall. She notified police.

Someone busted the window of a car on Sixth Avenue West and tried to steal the stereo. The stereo actually was removed, along with a necklace and cigarettes, from a car on Ninth Avenue West. A locked car on North Meridian Road was broken into and the interior vandalized.

A car on Fourth Street West was covered in spraypaint in another act of vandalism.

Officers received 67 calls for service between 2:30 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish police cited a 16-year-old girl for possession of alcohol while investigating a suspicious person complaint.

Officers received 48 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Columbia Falls police

Columbia Falls police received 15 calls for service between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Alarms

The Kalispell Fire Department responded to a crash on Third Avenue East North, but no one was injured.

The Kalispell Fire Department responded to the Flathead County Detention Center, where an inmate tried to cut his wrist. He was taken to the hospital.

The Columbia Falls Fire Department responded to a broken, blowing gas line near a golf course north of town.
