James Levi Lyon, 81, of Bozeman, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009. James was born on April 14, 1928, in Kalispell to Paul and Mabel (Boyer) Lyon.

He met the love of his life, Louise, and the two were married on Sept. 13, 1958, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In 1971, they moved to Missoula, before settling in Bozeman in 1973.

James worked as a project manager for the Montana Highway Department for 35 years before his retirement in 1995.

He enjoyed fly fishing on the Gallatin River and he will be remembered as a quiet person who enjoyed gardening tomatoes, cucumbers and rhubarb and loved growing any kind of annuals. James also enjoyed his birdfeeders and cooking and baking pies — especially pumpkin.

He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Bozeman.

He will be missed by his two little terriers, as he always loved animals.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; children, Marcy and Daniel Gonzales of El Paso, Texas, James and Kathleen Lyon of Orlando, Fla., and Cecile and Kraig Bercier of Bozeman; brother, Norman Lyon of Kalispell; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
