Rangers rescue river rafters

Glacier National Park rangers rescued two people from the Middle Fork of the Flathead River Monday afternoon after their raft flipped between the new and old bridges at West Glacier. A call for help came in to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office about 2 p.m. on Memorial Day, but park officials said rangers had the two boaters out of the water and into an ambulance for a ride to the raft company before sheriff's deputies could arrive. Other than being cold, the two people were fine, the sheriff's office said. No information was available on their ages or what caused the raft to overturn.

Bears continued to send people to their phones, with sightings in the Somers area off Treweek Road and by the White Oak, and another one at the Reserve Drive entrance to a building supply store Sunday night. It ambled off harmlessly toward a car lot across the street, but Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials still were called.

Kalispell police said a woman in a car and a man in a truck were trying to beat each other up and break each others' windows on Seventh Avenue East Sunday evening.

People in a vehicle parked along Spotted Bear Road outside Martin City apparently were not poaching deer as feared Sunday evening.

Whitefish police arrested eight young people at a loud party in an apartment building on Lupfer Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old man, as well as four boys and one girl, were charged with being minors in possession of alcohol after police checked into a complaint about many people coming and going to the noisy party.

An expired registration caught police attention, but the traffic stop resulted in a 26-year-old man being jailed on a warrant and for having no insurance, as well as the lapsed registration. A 20-year-old woman who came to the station a half-hour later to pick up the truck keys was arrested for her own outstanding warrant.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested for DUI a few minutes before 8 a.m. Monday at Baker and 10th Street. At the same time, she was arrested for operating without insurance and for negligent endangerment of the 9-year-old girl in the car with her.

Police logged 33 entries from 3:30 p.m. Sunday to 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Alarms

Whitefish ambulance went to the Whitefish High School football field a little before midnight Sunday, where a 16-year-old girl broke her leg after sliding down a pole and hitting the ground too hard. A guy with her was not injured, but she was taken to the hospital.
