Flathead County sheriff's deputies cited a man for owning and maintaining a vicious dog after it attacked a golden retriever while both dogs and owners were hiking the Lone Pine State Park trail. The attacking dog was not leashed. The retriever received care for a puncture wound to the neck.

A camper at an Ashley Lake campground called the sheriff's office after finding drugs or paraphernalia there Wednesday afternoon. A deputy disposed of it.

No idea when it may have hit, but somebody found a bullet hole in the side of a house on VanZant Road Wednesday afternoon.

One dog among five unleashed dogs that a man was walking along Butterfly Lane in Happy Valley broke out of the pack and grabbed a boy by the shirt, tearing the shirt but leaving the boy unhurt Wednesday evening. Deputies tried unsuccessfully to find the dog owner.

Alcohol was involved in an assault on Tuesday that prompted a man to report it on Wednesday. He refused medical help and wouldn't press charges.

It was 2:30 a.m. when a man called the sheriff's office to complain of another man who kept beating on his door along U.S. 2. Others may have been fighting out in the yard, but all was quiet when deputies arrived.

Kalispell police

Kalispell police arrested a 21-year-old woman after a mother called with concerns that her daughter may be doing drugs at a local hotel. The woman was charged with forgery and criminal sale of dangerous drugs.

Somebody slashed two tires on a 1986 Chevy Monte Carlo on Seventh Avenue East.

A woman denied she shoplifted two garden hoses from a local lumber and hardware store.

At first a pitched tent looked like a transient camp just behind a house near Lawrence Park. Police didn't think it was a transient's doing, but collected the tent from private property and are waiting for the owner to call.

Reckless driving of motorcycles on Fourth Avenue West and a black sports car or red passenger car on 10th Avenue West are causing concern for residents.

Somebody harassing passersby and dogs in a vehicle got an off-duty Lake County officer to report a suspected drunk near a sandwich shop in front of a hardware and lumber box store.

Drug transactions were suspected when a car with four or five people inside kept getting walk-up traffic in Woodland Park. The car was vacant and police could not secure it, so they had it towed.

Whitefish police arrested a 54-year-old man for partner or family member assault and possession of drug paraphernalia after he reportedly assaulted his girlfriend on Wisconsin Avenue.

Last winter a 37-year-old Kalispell man allegedly stole skis from a store in Whitefish Mountain Mall. On Thursday officers tracked him down and charged him with theft.

A 19-year-old Whitefish woman was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license during a traffic stop Wednesday night.

The police department had 43 log entries between 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Columbia Falls police

Columbia Falls police are investigating a reported assault on Driftwater Way. A boy reportedly was walking home from school when a couple other kids assaulted him.

Somebody stole a student's new yearbook at the high school.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old girl for shoplifting at a grocery store.

A fire in the fryer at fast-food restaurant in an Evergreen box store, then a lingering gas smell, prompted a call to the Evergreen Fire Department Wednesday evening.

Bigfork Fire Department quickly put out a fire in a trash bin behind a lumber business Wednesday evening.

Bigfork Fire Department was called for a gas line problem on Siderius Lane Thursday afternoon.
