A Glacier National Park plow crew is cutting its way through snow drifts ranging from 25 to 30 feet deep in the Big Bend area about three miles shy of Logan Pass.

Meanwhile, an east-side plow crew is approaching the East Tunnel. Warm weather is expected this weekend, which should help the road-clearing effort, according to Amy Vanderbilt, the park's public affairs officer.

However, the road will not open to the public over Logan Pass prior to June 19 because the contract with the road contractor allows both lanes of the alpine highway to be closed during the ongoing reconstruction project on Sun Road.

Vanderbilt stressed that June 19 is not a projected opening date.

Vehicles currently can travel as far as Avalanche Campground, with hikers and bikers having exclusive use of the road all the way up to the Big Bend area over the weekend.

On weekdays, hikers and bikers can go as far as The Loop.

On the east side, vehicles can go as far as Jackson Glacier Overlook and hikers and bikers can continue to the Siyeh Bend area.
