C. Falls 2nd at speech meet
Columbia Falls High School came in second to Missoula Loyola Sacred Heart High School in its first speech and debate tournament of the season Saturday.
Columbia Falls finished the Polson Invitational with 72 points, well behind Class B powerhouse Loyola's 180 points. Loyola has won the last 26 straight Class B state championships and is stiff competition even for Class A schools like Columbia Falls.
The junior varsity squad from Flathead High School came in third with 37 points. Hamilton finished fourth with 33, and Glacier High School's JV team finished fifth with 30 points.
In the drama tournament, Polson won with 102 points, followed by Libby with 102 and Hamilton with 36.
Bigfork High School also competed in Polson. Whitefish High School had planned to attend, but most of its seniors took the SAT on Saturday instead, head coach Pat McLaughlin said. The team will compete this Saturday in Libby.
