Glacier gets second speech win

Glacier High School's speech and debate team won its second straight tournament of the season in Butte on Saturday.

The Wolfpack finished the two-day tournament with 184.5 points, defeating second-place Flathead High School's 162.5 points and third-place Bozeman's 134 points. It was the first Class AA tournament of the season.

"A super weekend! Easily our biggest win in school history," Glacier head coach Greg Adkins said.

"It was fun to battle Flathead and Bozeman. They both have great programs, and I expect the three of us to fight it out all season."

Flathead head coach Kala Lougheed agreed that each meet will be a fight.

"It's going to be a close, three-way race all season long," she said. "Any given weekend, it could be anyone's tournament."

The tournament came down to the wire Saturday, with Glacier and Flathead neck and neck until the very end, Lougheed said. Glacier won more debate events, but Flathead won more speech events.

The teams compete again Friday and Saturday in Great Falls.
