Man 'just killing time' with hatchet

Flathead County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in a vehicle at a store on Montana 35. The man said he was "just killing time," but oddly, he had a hatchet in his lap.

Sunday night, there was a report of a vehicle hitting a mountain lion on Montana 83.

A Danielson Road resident called deputies out to deal with an unwanted neighbor who was accusing him of shooting firearms unsafely.

A cat trapped in a pet carrier was abandoned near some Dumpsters behind a gas station.

Deputies broke up a dispute involving a drunk husband and a wife at a West Cottonwood residence.

There was a report of an out-of-control girl causing a ruckus at Willow Glenn residence. She calmed down after deputies arrived.

Early Monday, there was a report of someone breaking a garage window with a rock on Sun Rise Road. Later, the resident reported that a door had been dented as well.

A Valley Drive resident reported that in recent days his garage door has been opening mysteriously, and that overnight part of a deer he had in the garage was missing.

Deputies broke up a dispute involving a man and woman on Pavillion Hill Avenue in the Somers area.

An Ashley Lake Road resident reported items had been stolen from the house.

A man who had been hiking in the North Fork Flathead drainage about 10 miles north of Columbia Falls reported that when he returned from the hike, his red Chevrolet pickup was missing. It was logged as a stolen vehicle.

There was a report from Smith Lake Road residence of a woman harassing another woman.

Sunday night, Kalispell police received a report of a daughter assaulting her mother and then leaving the home on the 1400 block of Eight Avenue East.

There was a report of a purse being stolen from a vehicle at a U.S. 2 West grocery store.

There was a report of a suspicious man carrying a shotgun on Airport Road. An officer contacted the man and determined everything was okay.

After a traffic stop on North Main, a man, 28, was arrested on a warrant from another jurisdiction.

There was a report of picnic tables being vandalized at Elrod School on Third Avenue West.

There was a report of the empty Gateway West Cinema building being vandalized with graffiti.

A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend, who is not supposed to be near her, had hit her over the head.

Columbia Falls police arrested a man, 31, on multiple warrants including one felony and for failing to register as a violent offender at a residence on the 2000 block of Ninth Street West Sunday night.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious man wearing camouflage and carrying a rifle near Fran Lou Park on 13th Street West Sunday night. After attempting to contact a man in the area, he fled and prompted a search that included assistance from Flathead County deputies and a Montana Highway Patrol trooper. They could not find the man.

Whitefish police officers, following up on an investigation into a stolen vehicle, ended up arresting a man, 25, for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia Monday afternoon at the police station.
