Seminar takes look at energy, jobs

The public is encouraged to attend the next session in a community energy dialogue series from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19.

The session, “Energy, the Economy, and Jobs ... Planning for the Future,” will be at Flathead Valley Community College’s Arts and Technology Building, Room 139.

A panel of professionals will discuss how rising energy costs affect local business and sustainability, where there is a potential for job growth, and the challenges and opportunities that are influenced by local and national energy plans and policies.

n Larry Swanson, an economist and director of the University of Montana’s O’Connor Center for the Rocky Mountain West, will give an overview of the Flathead’s economy and key drivers surrounding energy issues. 

n Kellie Danielson from Montana West Economic Development will explain what energy-related factors impact how the Flathead can attract and retain both large and small businesses.

n Margie Jones from Community Action Partnership will discuss how national energy policy and funding has created job opportunities.

n Haley Beaudry, formerly of Columbia Falls Aluminum Co., will talk about how energy supplies and costs impact larger industrial businesses.  

n Craig Wilkins from Zinc Air will present information on opportunities that exist in developing new energy technologies.

After the panel presentations, there will be opportunity for the public to ask questions and offer feedback.
