Lions fill postseason honors list in football
The Eureka Lions football team picked up a nice share of postseason honors including an All State selection.
Senior running back Chad Price capped his standout career at Lincoln County High with 1,560 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in his final season and was named All State in Class B for the second year in a row. Last season, the speedy back totaled 1,356 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns.
Price also earned first team All Conference in 7B this year as running back, outside linebacker and return specialist.
Joining Price in the first team All Conference honors are teammates Doug Tallon (center), Josh Soderling (offensive tackle), Taylor Brown (defensive end), Andrew Sanders (defensive back) and Taylor Vaughn (fullback, middle linebacker). Sanders (wide receiver) and Brown (offensive tackle) also grabbed second team honors on the other side of the ball.
The Lions finished the regular season with a 6-2 record and a share of the conference title. They went on to lose out in the opening round of the playoffs to Florence after sustaining a number of key injuries, including the loss of Price and starting quarterback Colin Gillard.
Gillard earned second team honors at quarterback and honorable mention at outside linebacker. Also earning second team honors were Caleb Curtiss (guard and defensive tackle), Bryton Guckenberg (defensive back and punter) and Andrew Derby (middle linebacker).
Honorable mention honors went out to Tallon (defensive tackle), Soderling (defensive end) and Alex Lesowski (wide receiver).
