Robert W. Ewert Jr., 48

Robert W. Ewert Jr., 48, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the Whitefish Care and Rehabilitation Center in Whitefish. He was born on July 13, 1961, in Kalispell, to Robert W. Sr. and Maxine (Madsen) Ewert. Bob received his early education in Kalispell and immediately after graduation joined the Navy. He served from 1978 to 1983 on the USS Jouett out of San Diego. Bob met Callie Hawkins and they were married in Kalispell on April 18, 1980. After separating from active duty, Bob returned to Kalispell where he worked as an independent logger until taking a job at Superior Lumber, where he learned the trade of log scaler. After the closing of Superior Lumber, Bob worked for an independent contractor as a scaler throughout Northwest Montana until 1996. It was at this time he went to work for Plum Creek. Medical reasons caused him to retire in 2005. Bob loved all outdoor activities and was a terrific woodworker. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Bob was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father, Robert Ewert Sr., and wife, Judith, of Kalispell; son, Duffy Ewert, and wife, Jennifer, and their daughter, Madison, of Fort Drum, N.Y.; a daughter, Heather Ewert, of Columbia Falls; sisters, Margaret Moen and husband, Steve, of Kalispell, and Kathy Strand and husband, Richard, of Columbia Falls; brothers, Scott Dunigan and wife, Sharon, of Seattle, and Joe Dunigan of Denver; also his ex-wife, Callie Ewert, of Columbia Falls; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Bob will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Tim Bartholomew of Stillwater Free Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery with military honors. The family suggests memorial gifts to the Kalispell Moose Lodge, P.O.
