Class A Golf: Platke, Cameron division medalists
COLUMBIA FALLS - Reed Platke and BreAnna Cameron conquered the weather, and the course, with impressive individual efforts to claim medalist honors Thursday and lead Whitefish to both team titles at the Northwestern A Divisional golf tournament at Meadow Lake Golf Resort.
Platke shot a 1-over 73 to run off with the boys individual title. Last year he won a playoff to claim the individual honor.
Cody Fischer of Polson, Joe Blakemore of Whitefish and Tanner Lineberry of Columbia Falls all tied for second with 85s on Thursday.
Cameron, in just her second week of play, carded an 83 to top the leader board by eight shots over Natalia Arlint of Polson.
Cameron has been sidelined for much of the season following knee surgery.
"The course was tough and the weather was tough," Columbia Falls coach Gene Marcille said.
"The scores reflect that. It was pretty impressive that the kids got out there and ground it out. They worked hard at it."
After playing much of the golf season in 80- and 90-degree weather, golfers had to contend with brisk conditions and temperatures in the 50s for the divisional.
Whitefish had five golfers in the top seven spots en route to a 330 team total. Columbia Falls placed second, 373, and Polson third, 386.
The Whitefish girls had four individuals in the top five, giving the Bulldogs the team title, 377.
Polson, 411, was second and Columbia Falls, 512, third.
The Whitefish boys and girls were defending divisional champions.
The top 15 individuals and top three teams advance to the state tournament Oct. 9-10 at Village Greens Golf Course.
