Francis Frank Eugene Egan, 72
Francis "Frank" Eugene Egan, 72, passed away on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at the Brendan House in Kalispell. He was born March 23, 1937, in Kalispell, to Elbert E. and Sophia J (Kluk) Egan.
Frank was born and raised in the Flathead Valley. At the age of 12, he had a hunting accident and lost a leg, but that didn't stop him from becoming an avid swimmer and spending time with friends hunting and fishing. He was married at a young age and had two daughters.
He spent his young adulthood as a logger in the Flathead Valley and, after his divorce, moved to Seattle in the mid-'60s. While living in Seattle he drove a taxi for awhile, and then worked for Boeing Company in the metal heat treating facility, from the late '60s to 1975. He liked to tell his family how his heat treated metal landed on the moon. During his time in Seattle he was also a mechanic.
He enjoyed buying worthless non-running cars and getting them so the engines purred like a kitten, which he would then resell for a huge profit. Frank spent weekends on his boat in the Puget Sound/San Juan area. He enjoyed taking tourists out on fishing expeditions and being a judge for sailboat races.
He moved back to the Flathead Valley in 1976. For the next several years he took several trips to eastern Montana to buy farm equipment and he fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a farmer and working the family land. For many years he snow-plowed for the Kalispell School District and was always ready to help a neighbor plow out their driveway.
Frank was very patriotic and spent the later part of his life studying the Constitution. His hobbies included firearms and visiting with friends.
He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Alice Lynn Egan, and is now survived by his daughter, Julia Ann Talarico, of Kalispell; three grandchildren, SPC Joseph Matthew Talarico, Amanda Rae Talarico Schei and Andrew James Talarico; one great-grandson, Torren Alexander James Schei; one sister, Genie Zorb; nephew, Terry Zorb; and cousin, Steve Funke; with many more cousins and relatives.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Johnson - Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside services for Frank will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
