AA State Golf: West defends crown, Glacier 2nd

BILLINGS - The Billings West boys were even better on the second day of the Class AA state golf tournament and held off Glacier on Wednesday to win their fifth title in six seasons.

Brandon McIver shot a 2-under 70 and West went 1-2-3-4 for a team total 289 to claim its fourth state championship in a row. They tied with Glacier in 2007.

Justin Newton led the Wolfpack with a fifth-place finish after carding a 4-over 76 on the second and final day of the tourney. Newton finished with 152. Logan Iverson earned seventh after shooting a 74 and the Wolfpack totaled 633 as a team and finished runner-up for the second year in a row.

The Bozeman girls grabbed the title with a 712 total. They last won in 2007.

Flathead's Michael Lavin improved 14 strokes on the second day with a 77 for a total of 168 and was the top Brave.

The Glacier girls, led by Karli Aurich, earned fourth place with 763. Cali Toth was the top Flathead girl.
