Explorer tells her story Thursday
Wilderness medicine trainer and explorer Susan Purvis of Whitefish will share her personal story during a presentation, "Going to Extremes: Altitude Medicine," at noon on Thursday at Flathead Valley Community College.
Purvis will talk about how she founded the Khumbu Medical School, offering the first high-altitude medicine course to Sherpas who guide clients up Mount Everest. She also will talk about her experiences teaching similar courses on the flanks of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The lecture is free and open to the public and takes place in the board room at Blake Hall. Call the FVCC Multicultural Affairs Office at 756-3945 for further information.
Susan Purvis is also teaching a wilderness first responder course Oct. 31 through Nov. 6 in Whitefish, with limited space available.
